Adversity, Goals, Life Purpose, Living intentionally
I’ve been praying about continuing my education and have always wanted to pursue a doctorate degree, so guess what………… I’m officially a seminary student!
I will be getting the Doctor of Counseling (DCoun) degree through Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
It’s a continuation and the next phase of the exciting adventure I’ve already started with my coaching and counseling training in the past.
Although I do most of my work in the field of coaching, I am also a counselor and meet and/or hear of so many people on a daily basis who are hurting or could use support and guidance. There’s a big need for that role in ministry. I’d like to be equipped in the best way possible to help address those needs and to bring true hope and healing in Christ to those who need it.
Clinically Descriptive and Biblically Prescriptive
Their counseling model really appealed to me. I love that they integrate a clinical and biblical approach to their counseling model.
Resilience
One of my passions in life is the idea of resilience. With all of the twists and turns our life has taken over the years, and even this summer, I know that God will use my story and experiences for the good of others. My prayer is that I will always follow through the open doors that He prepares for me and that I will never ask “Why me?” but will instead always ask “How…..how would You have me to use this for Your glory?”
For my dissertation, I plan to focus on the topic of resilience in some form. (more…)

Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe it’s 2017 already. Wasn’t it just 1991 and I was planning my wedding? Ok, so maybe it doesn’t feel like it’s that long ago, but the whole Y2K thing feels like yesterday. Here we are, already 17 years later. Wow! Even more of a reminder of what I thought I’d write about today…
Do you have a focus word or phrase for this coming year? As I’ve reflected on the past year and have thought about the coming year, one word keeps coming to mind for me. It’s “STEWARD“. As in stewardship. That word has been very meaningful to me lately and I’ve chosen it to be my theme / focus for 2017. I want to be a good steward of my life.
As I mentioned above, time seems to be flying by. One minute I’m bringing home a newborn from the hospital and the next minute (it seems) he’s now turning 23. Repeat that scene multiple times and I can really feel time passing by. We’re only given so much time with our children. Only so much time with our spouses. Only so much time here on earth in general. We don’t have time to waste with foolish choices or careless words and actions. (more…)

The Eagle has landed!
As you may know, I’ve been in grad school working on a master’s degree in counseling for the past couple of years. I turned in my very last paper for my very last course and began waiting for graduation! I can’t begin to tell you how good that felt to finish my goal (more on that in another post)! Sorry, I couldn’t resist the cute little cat meme. I’m sure you can relate to the feeling of finishing a major task or life goal. It’s all in good humor– I’m really not trying to be boastful by any means. I love to laugh and have fun in life!
I finished with my internship at BJC Behavioral Health in October and graduated this week! And that’s it! The end. Wow! It seemed like “one day…” would never get here.
I’m really excited about the doors God is opening and can’t wait to see where He will take me. I kept my coaching very part-time while I was in school. Seriously, it was all I could do to juggle the many hats I wore plus school and coaching. (I mentioned in the past that I have 7 children, right? 🙂 )
I have many groups I’m planning to roll out after Christmas and have a lot of ideas that I’ve been collecting and waiting to use! Details coming soon. My plan is to finally go full-time with the coaching in January 2017!
It’s so nice to know that “one day” is finally here! It’s time to write the next chapter of my life story.
I’d love to hear your story …

The New Year is coming! Are you ready to be more awesome? 🙂
Resolutions
With the new year, we often make resolutions or set new goals. Unfortunately, we never achieve many of them.
Maybe “being more awesome than last year” isn’t your exact resolution for the coming year, but life coaching can help you to achieve your real resolution.
What if?
What if this year could be different? What if you did make a resolution and keep it? It takes 21 days to develop a new habit. What if you went longer than that? What if you spent 3 solid months working with a life coach to develop a “New You” for the New Year? (more…)
Goals, Life Purpose, Living intentionally
Have you ever been lost or confused and needed to look at a big map to find out exactly where you are? Maybe you were somewhere new and you had to ask for directions or you had to stop and pull out a visual map to get your bearings. Or maybe it was even somewhere you had been before but the way wasn’t super clear and you stopped to ask directions just for clarity (and maybe the sake of time!).
Help!
I’m at a conference at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center this week. I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve already had to stop and do all of the above! I’ve been here before, but the place is huge and the “way” to get places was a little fuzzy in my memory. I’ve stopped and asked for directions, looked at maps, wandered around and made a few wrong turns, and have even found shortcuts to get where I’m going. (more…)
Goals, Living intentionally
Do you ever sit around and think about the future? When we’re young, we often think about what life will be like when we grow up. Who and what will be become? But as an adult, we sometimes quit dreaming or thinking about the future. It’s more of a day-to-day existence for some. Focused on the present.
Maybe you had a dream and it died. Maybe you never really had a plan or dream. You just waited to see how it would all work out on its own. (more…)
Goals, Life Purpose, Living intentionally
My big dream is to have a small, farm-like setting with a red barn for my coaching and counseling center.
I envision sunflowers growing outside and a big porch with rocking chairs and a porch swing. I even know the colors I’ll use and how it will “look” and “feel” inside. (If you know me, you know I love to paint rooms….and I’m all about color! Should people really get this giddy when they think about painting stuff? ) I want it to be a peaceful place where people feel welcome and relaxed. I want it to be a safe place where they can say what’s on their hearts, dream, set goals, and take steps to move forward into all that God has for their lives. (more…)
Goals
It’s that time again…..the New Year. Time for “resolutions”.
It’s the time when people think of fresh starts, making changes and planning how they would like their life to be. We start off with great intentions and lofty plans for the year. We just know that this year will be different. This year we will do what we set out to do.
How long does that usually last? How many actually follow through? If you’re like me, you probably know many people who don’t follow through, or you may have even not followed through yourself in the past. I’m sure that has probably never happened to you though.

Goals, Life Balance
If you’re like me, your life is probably pretty busy. There are so many things we can be involved in and before we know it, we can easily be maxed out and in over our heads. Many of them are “have to’s” and others are just wants or desires… things we enjoy, would like to do, always wanted to learn, etc.
Sometimes we make ourselves busier than we need to be. We over-commit. There could be many reasons behind that, including not being able to say no or actually thinking we can do “just one more thing”. But in reality, we can’t be all things to all people and probably will not be effective if we try to participate in every opportunity that comes our way. (more…)
Being a Godly Woman, Goals, Transformation
What could you accomplish if you focused on your personal or spiritual growth or on transforming some area of your life for 2 months? What if you spent 3 months focusing on yourself?
- How would life be different?
- What would it look like?
- Who would you be because of the change?
- Would you wake up each day ready to enjoy each moment with confidence, peace of mind, and joy in your heart?
What would it mean to you if you gained: life balance; clarity in your purpose and mission in life; a sense of calm and peace; less hurry and busyness; time management; or priorities for your life and values?
